Trusting The Process of PR

BY MASON CURRY

Being in a student-run PR firm has been an interesting experience, to say the least. It’s not like working at a normal job.

At my current job, I always know what I am going to do whenever I start my shift. That’s not how it is here. One week, I might be working on a blog article for a client, then the next week I'm interviewing someone for a press release. I was a little intimidated by the thought of it all at first. I had to learn to adapt quickly, and because of that, I’ve learned a lot about working in different areas of a public relations firm.

Writing has always been one of my strongest skills, so I was eager to learn about new ways to write. During this semester, I was able to improve my writing skills overall, and it didn’t take long to happen. By learning what it takes to write press releases, blog posts, and ghost blogs, I gained experience in areas I had never had before.

It wasn’t just my writing that I improved on. I’ve also learned a lot about designing, interviewing, and communicating with clients. Working for 1910 PR has been a great learning experience and it’s helped me realize what I want to do after I graduate. I am glad I’ve been able to expand my skills and learn a lot about what it's like to work in the public relations industry!
