I feel so fortunate to be a small part of the Department of Communication at West Texas A&M University, which encompasses Public Relations, Advertising, Applied Communication, and Digital Communication and Media majors.
This semester, I took my first public relations class and contributed to our department's student-led PR agency, 1910 PR.
This experience has enriched my academic journey and immersed me in real-world communication strategies, sharpening my skills for future endeavors. I've come to appreciate the value of student-run organizations that foster growth and offer invaluable hands-on experience, preparing us for internships and careers post-graduation.
During my time here in 1910, my peers and I used various strategies for working with new and ongoing clients.
Service
One new client we teamed up with this spring was the Amarillo SPCA. After being approached by them for help, we brainstormed graphic design ideas for their Muttfest event and managed their Instagram account. This collaboration shows our dedication to supporting local groups and using our skills to make a difference in the community.
Tailored Proposals
At 1910 PR, we specialize in creating personalized proposals that cater to each client's unique needs and objectives. Our approach is grounded in comprehensive research on their industry, target audience, and competitors, ensuring our strategies are both relevant and effective.
Networking
This semester, we had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with the National Millennial & Gen Z Community (NMGZ). In this project, we worked closely with GrandPR, the student-led public relations firm at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, to develop a tailored campaign proposal for an international client. This experience not only allowed us to apply our strategic planning skills but also showcased our ability to collaborate effectively with other people in different time zones. It was a rewarding challenge that reinforced our commitment to delivering high-quality, customized solutions.
Collaboration
At 1910 PR, we believe in the power of collaboration, especially within the context of student-led firms. We offer our clients, such as the WT Distinguished Lecture Series and Department of Communication, a unique opportunity to work with emerging talent while gaining access to fresh perspectives and innovative approaches. This symbiotic relationship enriches both parties, fostering growth and creativity.
Within each of our account teams, collaboration is at the heart of our approach. We work closely together, pooling our diverse skills and ideas to create comprehensive strategies and solutions. This collaborative environment not only enhances the quality of our work but also ensures that we deliver results to meet our clients' expectations. By leveraging the collective intelligence and creativity of our team members, we create great work that drives success for each of our clients, which results in positive word-of-mouth referrals for new clients.
By implementing these strategies, any student-led PR firm can effectively attract and retain clients, while also gaining valuable experience and establishing a reputable presence in the industry.
