When thinking about ethics in public relations the first thing that comes to mind is
TRUST. Building lasting relationships with clients, consumers, and employees should be one of the most important things in PR.
Now let’s talk about the importance of ethics in PR.
Credibility is the essence of someone truly listening to the information you are
putting out and whether they should trust the information shared. Today, there
seem to be a lot of false narratives spreading to the public.
PR practitioners should put forth truthful information on their clients’ platforms (aka
owned media) and when pitching stories to the media. I tend to listen to the outlets
and organizations I trust and read their content more. Like, for example—I
can take the information that’s given out from our media platform and know it is
factual and ethical content.
The biggest point to make about ethics in PR is to educate yourself and research the
facts so you know the truth, then when you share it with the public, you can be the
one who’s ethical and trusted.
