Since the start of the semester, 1910 PR has helped me learn so many new skills and has given me a lot more knowledge about the opportunities that live within the field of Public Relations and how a PR firm works.

In terms of opportunities, I had the privilege to network with some amazing people from the AdSavvy event that I worked, met wonderful volunteers from the City of Canyon campaign I worked on, and have learned so much about different organizations in our community that I would like to be a part of one day - which is something that I would have never gotten the opportunity to do, had it not been for 1910 PR.

After working with the Distinguished Lecture Series and creating a newsletter through MailChimp, I feel a lot more confident in writing newsletters and working my way around an email list, and making sure they work.

I’ve learned a lot more about how business accounts on Instagram, Meta, and LinkedIn work from helping post promotions about the DLS events.

I especially learned a lot from Rebecca Hayes’, 1910 PR Executive Director, presentation about the metrics that both Meta and Instagram provide for business accounts.

Having worked with the City of Canyon’s social media platforms to promote their volunteerism campaign, I am a lot more comfortable editing and filming videos with Adobe Express.

I had previously only used Adobe’s Premiere Pro, but now I am well versed with almost all of Adobe's main programs and can use them sufficiently to complete any project that I will work on in the future.

Another thing related to the video editing aspect that I have learned is what an SRT file is and how they work. I had never heard of an SRT file before this class, and I know how to make one by hand, if need be, but I also know how to use Premiere to generate captions, transcripts, and SRT files. Knowing my way around an SRT will absolutely be beneficial for me to know in the future and will help me when it comes to jobs dealing with SEO, accessibility, and translation.

Finally, being introduced to the SpinSucks podcast with Gini Dietrich has helped me learn a lot about marketing, advertising, and PR, and how to combine all of those into a successful and well run campaign. I had never heard of the PESO model before listening to this podcast.

I was already familiar with the elements of PESO (Paid, Earned, Shared, Owned), but now I know how to integrate them properly into any future campaigns that I will work on. While listening to the podcast every week, I have learned more about each part of PESO than I thought I would ever know.

I have gotten new ideas and new ways to think about how each of those aspects should work together to create a successful marketing campaign.

All of these new skills and the new knowledge that I have gained from my semester in 1910 PR are things that I will carry with me through the rest of my career, and I can’t wait to put this all to use!
