Hidden Gem: 1910 PR

My experience with 1910 PR was an extremely valuable experience, allowing me to gather skills I would have never imagined myself using. I have been blessed to meet so many great people and work with a bunch of highly talented individuals, who made this semester go smoothly and allowed me to learn so much.

One of the most rewarding parts of the class was the ability and honor to work and promote the last Distinguished Lecture Series that West Texas A&M will host for the time being.

It was such a great experience getting to get my feet wet in the world of public relations with such a prestigious event as the DLS. I learned many valuable tools and skills while working on the DLS team, and I believe such tools will forever stay with me in my career.

Building on that momentum, with there only being a single DLS event, I transitioned into a role in helping out with the City of Canyon’s PR team. It has also been an honor to be a part of this team because it is the first time a 1910 class has had the City of Canyon as a client.

This shift from campus-centric PR to municipal communication has added an entirely new layer to my skill set.

Working with the city meant considering a much broader range of stakeholders, including local residents, business owners, and government officials.

It was fascinating to see how the principles we discussed in class translated to the local community, whether that involves promoting local initiatives or managing the flow of information to the public.

Looking back on the semester, I was very hesitant and scared to be in such a high-profile class such as this one, but being in the position I am in right now, I'm very thankful that I am.

The people in this class made it not just that much easier but have also allowed me to learn skills I would have never imagined picking up. Being in 1910 hasn't just been about weekly client reports and SpinSucks episodes; it's been about building the skills necessary for our future and for everyone's future around us.
